Our Story

Founded in 2014.

Sandbar opened in 2014 with one Cape Hatteras-built catamaran and a list of friends willing to come along on the test runs. A decade later we run six experiences across the Outer Banks — sunset sails, dolphin watches, kayak tours through the sound, wild horse trips up to Carova, surf lessons for first-timers, and the lighthouse climb at Bodie Island.

Our captains hold USCG Master licenses. Our naturalist guides know the migrations. We run small groups by design — six on a kayak tour, fourteen on a sunset sail. You don't have to fight for the rail.

We don't run when the conditions don't run. If a squall rolls through and we have to push your sunset sail by a day, we'll do it. The water won't apologize, but we will.
